Rodeo is an unincorporated community in Contra Costa County, governed by the County Board of Supervisors. Community input is facilitated by the Rodeo Municipal Advisory Council (RMAC), which meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month. To bring about improvements that will stimulate job development and improve living conditions, the County established the Rodeo Redevelopment Project Area in 1990, which encompasses approximately 650 acres. The basic premise ofr forming a redevelopment project area is to allow the County to utilize a portion of local property taxes (tax increment) for reinvestment into the local community.
Rodeo is served by the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol, operating out of the Bay Station substation. Fire protection is provided by the Rodeo-Hercules Fire District.
The San Francisco Bay Area is a regional center for medical care providing specialized services to Northern California residents from as far away as 200 miles. There are over 40 hospitals within a 30-mile radius of Rodeo. The closest medial is facility is the Rodeo Medical Center, located in downtown Rodeo. The closest hospital is Doctors Medical Center in Pinole, just 3 miles away.
