North Broadway Neighborhood Revitalization Plan

Contra Costa County Redevelopment Agency hired Design, Community and Environment to work with Community Residents in creating a conceptual plan for the Revitalization of the North Broadway Neighborhood. The design is for an 8-acre site formally used as a junkyard and purchased by the Redevelopment Agency for revitalization. The goal of the project was to create a conceptual design to link the neighborhoods on either side of the site and provide a catalyst for neighborhood improvement. The design is intended to facilitate the development of a neighborhood that is pedestrian friendly, safe, comfortable, and sociable.

The Conceptual Plan for the North Broadway Neighborhood includes:

  • 58 Single family homes (shown in yellow)
  • 34 Multiple family townhomes (shown in orange)
  • 2,88 square feel of commercial space (shown in red)

Other features include:

  • A Public Plaza between the commercial spaces
  • A greenway pedestrian walkway between the townhomes and the single family homes
  • A traffic circle in the at the intersection of the new street designed to slow traffic and help create a more pedestrian friendly environment.
  • A design based on the principles of New Urbanism
